Lam Rim Sunday School
A Path of Spiritual Growth
Lesson 1: Up Front

When Tibetan teachers became refugees in the late 1950s,
they carried with them the lam rim
the Stepwise Path.

At the heart of this path is bodhicitta
the Awakening Mind
of love, compassion and wisdom.

This path begins with the basic realities of life
and proceeds gradually
toward ultimate enlightenment.

Each step builds upon the steps before,
incorporating both
Buddhist and Christian
wisdom.

Do not be conformed to this world,
but be transformed
by the renewing of your minds.

— Romans 12:2

There is nothing here that has not been explained before,
and I have no skill in the art of rhetoric.
I write this in order to acquaint it to my own mind…
If these words are seen by others,
it may be meaningful for them.

— Shantideva (685-763 CE)

The best way to help someone
is to guide their thoughts toward spiritual teachings.

— Atisha (982-1054 CE)

May you find this path
to be a reliable guide to
a transformed way of life.

In grateful remembrance of my teachers and benefactors,
and especially Gelek Rimpoche,…

…this offering is dedicated to you,
dear reader,
with the sincere hope that
it may prove meaningful for you.
